Parental Consent for Teen Abortions

Margaret Sanger once said, “No woman can call herself free who does not own and control her body. No woman can call herself free until she can choose consciously whether she will or will not be a mother.” The United States is known for freedom. If this is the case, why are young women in their teens forced to give birth to children they do not want to raise? Right now, we are turning to parents to make choices for their children. However, this might not be beneficial for the children in unhealthy families. Teens should have the right to make their own decisions about their own body that will affect their own future. Parental consent shouldn't be needed for abortions.

Why shouldn't parental consent be needed?

Parental consent can be dangerous to those who have problems with their family. Teens with strained relationships with their parents may not be able to get permission. Teens also may not be comfortable talking to their parents about abortion. They might end up taking desperate measures to hide their pregnancy; this can end up putting them in danger as they can get kidnapped. A forced pregnancy is kind of like connecting a stranger's life to yours. If you leave them, then they will die. If you stay, it will leave you in danger. Not allowing parental consent is the easiest way to keep teens safe from forced pregnancies and ruined futures.
